Dear Fan,

As we all know, security is about levels. 
As with anything else, very high security
comes at a price. Low security is cheaper and
more convenient, but risky.

A latch on the door will keep the fox away, but not 
the neighbor's kids. A padlock keeps the kids away, 
but not the professional burglar. And on and on about 
watch dogs and barbed wire, you get the idea.

One of the many virtues of GHOSTPHRASE email encryption
is the high flexibility in security settings. The lowest 
security level is using the public freeware version with 
a set of unchanging Link and Message keys, reading the 
clear text using an on-line computer. 

The highest would be using individual, often updated GOLD versions 
for each pair of contacts, changing Link and Message keys frequently, only
using up- and downloaded files outside of any email system,
for example with the GHOSTPHRASE message board, and always running
encryption and decryption on an off-line computer.

A realistic, practical, yet very safe GHOSTPHRASE compromise
is to use the same GOLD edition for about five global users,
updated twice per year, employing constant Link passwords
unique to each contact pair, and fresh Message Keys from
shared cards, with online email attachments.

You can probably imagine several additional user option permutations
to choose from. 

An organization that allows master keys to its encryption,
for the sake of management overview and surveillance also
takes a huge risk of getting compromised.

The GHOSTPHRASE philosophy is instead to isolate cells of
communicator pairs or small groups. Each cell
has its own set of internal key editions, not shared with
anyone else. They further have their own set of Link passwords,
also serving as certificates if distributed by personal contact.

There are no master keys or back doors to GHOSTPHRASE.

If it is up to you to organize your email security,
remember that you can even have one or several other solutions running,
and then use GHOSTPHRASE for the exceptional level when you
feel you have to. GHOSTPHRASE allows you to have that freedom.
